Are You Doing Abs Wrong? Here are Simple 5 Tweaks

We were recently talking to someone who said they have tried all kinds of ab exercises and never feel like they are working. Well, just because you do something that looks like a crunch doesn’t mean it’s actually working your abs properly.
We can lift our body off the ground using all kinds of additional muscles and methods to get us up. We may throw our arms, use our hip flexors, throw a med ball or pull on our neck to get our body to actually do something that even remotely looks like a crunch or sit up. But, even if we somehow get our body to move, it’s possible not to really engage the muscles in way that effectively flattens and strengthens the muscles correctly.
This is particularly a struggle for women after pregnancy (or who have had C-sections) – or, anyone who has had surgery or trauma to the stomach muscles. It is also a common issue for people who just simply haven’t exercises their abs at all.
When you go around letting your belly just do it’s own thing, it is used to being stretched out. It’s not used to flexing, so we have to teach it how to engage those muscles and force it to flex – and even harder, teach it to STAY tight and keep the belly flat even when you aren’t working it.
Here are a few specific steps to take before you even do one rep to make SURE you are engaging your abs properly so that every crunch is crunching you in the right direction.
